today's poem is "fear" by sarah gambito, from her excellent book matadora, which you can order here.
Fear
A girl as a gem. I saw the worthiness of the gem.
But I was not the gem and I was not the jeweler.
One thousand people gather for the resurrection.
Their duty to the commonplace.
She's waving as if she might lose. She is your sister.
A corona. A beggar of lilies.
A platform for the operetta to begin.
Bring in the butcher and his life in service.
THE END
